Risk-Smart Leadership: Insurance Skills for Principals. Strengthen your understanding of school risk and insurance coverage. We will review who is covered under your district’s policies, what Special Education (SPED) coverage includes, and strategies for effectively managing common situations—such as community use of school facilities, volunteers, transportation, and PTO/PTA activities. We will also highlight frequent coverage exclusions that principals should be aware of.Come prepared to share your own experiences, discuss real-world scenarios with colleagues, and actively engage in the learning process.

Best Practices in Hiring This session will review best practices in the hiring process covering recruitment, screening and selection of individuals interested in joining your organization. The program will also focus attention on how to conduct a proper and thorough interview process. Lastly, we will share with participants what not to do including legally protected areas and common omissions frequently seen that lead to liability claims against hiring authorities.

This session is designed for school Principals who are current members of NHASP or NELMS.

Meet Your Team of Presenters!

Elaine St. Jean, Learning Experience ManagerElaine works with Primex3 instructors and external speakers to provide relevant learning experiences for our members and affiliate groups. She holds a B.S. in Organizational Development and a M.S. in in Leadership, and certificates in Organization Management, Kirkpatrick Four Levels® Evaluation, and Creating Leadership Development Programs. Elaine’s past experience includes program development, instructional design,
event management, and public relations. She is an adjunct faculty for some New England-based colleges. In her spare time Elaine has produced, directed, and acted in community and professional theatre and enjoys kayaking, sailing, hiking, and sports.

Monica Panait, Risk Management Services Manager

Monica provides oversight of the risk management team and operations. She works closely with the risk consultants, contract specialist, and directly with members to address all their risk management needs through consultation services, audits, and training. Her areas of expertise include loss mitigation in conjunction with the development of a risk management plan, advising regarding complex liability issues, reinsurance negotiation and placement, training development and delivery, and playground safety.

Carol Kilmister, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, Senior Human Resource Consultant

Carol Kilmister is a Senior Human Resource Consultant in the Legal and HR Services Department at Primex3where she provides training, guidance, and support to Property & Liability members. Prior to coming to Primex3, she worked for many years as the Director of HR for a multi-district SAU in NH. She is a graduate of Rivier University with a Master of Science degree in Human Resource Administration and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Plymouth State University. In addition, she holds national certification as a senior HR professional from both HRCI and SHRM. She has served on the board of directors the Association of NH Public Employer HR Administrators (ANHPEHRA) for many years and is also Past President of the Greater Concord HR Association of SHRM (HRAGC).
